Canadian Live-in Caregiver Program

The Canadian program Live-in Caregiver is part of the TFWP - Temporary Overseas Worker Program. Its purpose is to allow Canadians to hire overseas citizens. This is intended to provide home-care for the disabled or the elderly or for babysitting.

Individuals with 2 years of work experience at LCP Work Visa can apply for a Canadian PR. One of the criteria was that the nurses lived with the family who hired them. This left them defensive for exploitation, such as overtime, poor working conditions, etc.

The critics, therefore, argued that the program would be revised to safeguard the well-being of nurses. This was because their position was dependent on their Canadian employer, as CIC News reports say.

The residence clause was later removed. New work visas and impact assessment on the labor market were made mandatory if LCP immigrants decided to leave. They are no longer considered within the LCP and can not apply for a Canadian PR program.

IRCC no longer accepts recent applications in LCP. Those who intend to work as caregivers are now required to apply the normal Work Visa program, which LMIA supports. This is the case if they do not already have LCP Work Visa.

You may be eligible to apply for Canadian PR through Live-in Caregiver if you meet the following requirements:

24 months full time accepted live work experience in Canada (or)
3,900 hours confirmed permanent live-in work experience for at least 22 months and up to 390 hours overtime in Canada and
Work experience must be received within 4 years of the date of arrival
